Residency at The Stone House | Mission Valley, Montana
June 14-25, 2025
It was my great pleasure to be the inaugural artist-in-residence at the homestead of Dan & Megan Von Behren. Enchanted by the wide open energy of Montana and a humorous encounter with local bison, I was inspired to paint a playful landscape that captured the vital and skyful energy of Montana.
During my week in residence, I was grateful not only for the time to create, but also for the opportunity to come into quiet relationship with the land. I spent time listening, learning from the local flora and fauna, and attuning to the spirit of the place. Beyond my creative exploration and output, I did my best to offer Meg & Dan a presence rooted in joy and stillness. I always hope to bring positive energy to those who host me.
Located near the town of Charlo in Montana’s majestic Mission Valley, their homestead lies within the Flathead Indian Reservation governed by the Tribal Council of The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT).
This gorgeous valley remains a quiet rural community surrounded by wildlife refuges and cultural landmarks, carrying forward a legacy of resilience, dignity, and deep connection to the land.
Meg’s family have been respectfully farming this land for generations and have kept it unspoiled and wildly magnificent by adhering to the Tribal Council’s values and to original basic homesteading principles.
It was an honor to be there.
